2025 MA PFML Updates

The Department of Family and Medical Leave (DFML) announced significant updates to the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program. These changes, which impact both the state plan and private plans, are set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
Key Adjustments Include:
- The maximum weekly benefit will increase by $20.74, raising it from $1,149.90 to $1,170.64.
- The state average weekly wage will increase by $32.41, moving from $1,796.72 to $1,829.13.
Note for Private Plan Employers:
If your business offers PFML through a private plan, you will also see these increases in benefit amounts, so it’s essential to stay updated.
Contribution Rates:
Contribution rates will remain unchanged for employers and employees in 2025, but it’s crucial that businesses remain compliant and proactive in communicating these changes 2025 Contribution Rates
Employer Compliance Reminders:
Employee Notifications:
- Employers must provide written notice of PFML benefits and updates to all employees in accordance with M.G.L. c. 175M § 4.
- Current Employees: While contribution rates remain the same, employers should inform employees of the above adjustments before the January 1, 2025 effective date.
- New Hires: Employers must provide new employees with PFML information within 30 days of hire and obtain a signed acknowledgment. Electronic notice is permitted.
Mandatory Workplace Poster:
Employers are required to display the latest DFML workplace poster in a prominent location. While the updated 2025 version is pending, employers should stay alert for its release.

Paid Leave for Family Members of Certain Military Personnel:

Employees can see reported intermittent leave hours in the application website:
Employees can now see the status of their reported hours for intermittent leave directly through the application website. This feature allows employees to view their reported hours immediately and to review the status of their hours at their convenience.
Vietnamese and French Language Options:
Applicants can now choose Vietnamese and French as their preferred language for their PFML application, as well as their application notices and notifications. DFML has added these two language options in addition to English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Haitian-Creole
